October 4, 2019

I am honored to represent District 3 on the Montgomery County Council.  I serve as Vice President for the Council, Chair of the Public Safety Committee and a member of the Government Operations Committee.

Council News

At the October 1st County Council Session:

  • The Council introduced Bill 32-19, Health and Sanitation - Flavored Electronic Cigarettes. The bill is designed to curb the use of flavored e-cigarettes among teens. Fifteen deaths in the United States have been linked to e-cigarettes in recent weeks, as well as an estimated 800 lung illnesses. A public hearing is tentatively scheduled to be held on 11/5/19 at 7:30 pm.

  • The Council introduced Zoning Text Amendment 19-07, Telecommunications Towers – limited use. This ZTA would allow certain telecommunications towers as a limited or conditional use in certain residential zones. Both Rockville and Gaithersburg have their own zoning authority. Therefore, ZTA 19-07 would not impact residents in these municipalities. A public hearing will be scheduled at a later date.

Katz in the Community

SAK

Thank you to everyone who joined the Mayor of Gaithersburg Jud Ashman and me at Einstein's Bagels last week for "Coffee and Conversation." We discussed issues affecting all of us living in Montgomery County over coffee and bagels. I hope to see you at the next "Coffee and Conversation" event!!

Kaiser

I was happy to join former Councilmember George Leventhal at the Kaiser Permanente Mobile Van at South Lake Elementary School in Gaithersburg. The Mobile Van is a mobile medical office available to provide easy access to primary care, screenings, immunizations and more.

Wells Robertson

Congratulations to the graduates at the Wells/Robertson House Recovery Picnic and Graduation. This organization provides transitional housing for homeless men and women who have undergone alcohol and/or drug treatment or received other professional counseling and want to break the cycle of homelessness.

Recovery Run

There were so many wonderful volunteers and participants at the Annual Race 4 Recovery 5K Run/Walk at Rockville Town Center. This race supports immediate action to those dealing with addiction. It also promotes awareness to break down stigmas associated with substance abuse.
