Winter is arriving! We invite you to join the community for some outdoor ice skating at the Silver Spring Civic Building at Veterans Plaza in downtown Silver Spring.

Don’t be left out in the cold—stay informed! This newsletter has some important reminders and information bulletins that we believe are of value to our more than 5,000 community user groups.

Deadline for Use of Schools During Winter Break

If you plan to use a school facility between the dates of December 23, 2016 through January 5, 2017, CUPF must receive your reservation request no later than 5:00 p.m. on December 15, 2016. CUPF does this each year in order to be respectful of school staff wishing to take leave to spend time with family during the holiday season.

Posting of Signs

User groups may only place temporary signs, on facility grounds during the actual hours of the scheduled hours of use. All temporary signs must comply with all applicable sign laws, including laws regarding the placement of signs on utility poles, trees, fences or on municipal, county or state rights-of-way.

Advertisement and Sponsorship

Community user groups must clearly identify on all advertising materials the name of the User, the name of any individual or group sponsoring the use, and the purpose of the use. A user may not use initials, abbreviations or logos which are not expressly defined in the advertising material. The purpose of the use must be clearly stated and must conform to the purpose identified in the application for use.

Announcements and advertisements must include the following statement: This activity is not sponsored by, associated with, or endorsed by Montgomery County Public Schools or Montgomery County Government.

Inclement Weather Reminder

If you wish to find out about weather related closings, please:

1. Sign-up for Alert Montgomery: https://alert.montgomerycountymd.gov/
2. Check our website: www.montgomerycountymd.gov/cupf
3. Call the CUPF inclement weather message line: 240-777-2710
4. Contact the MC311 call center: Dial 3-1-1 (240-777-0311 if outside Montgomery County)
5. Tune to local TV and Radio stations

Change in inclement weather policy: On weekdays, if schools cancel school-sponsored activities, all community use activities will be canceled.

Please note that if community use is cancelled by CUPF, a full credit of the rental fees for the hours cancelled will be issued. However, please be advised that while all users can certainly make their own choices whether or not to cancel their activities, it is only when activities have been officially cancelled by this office that credits will be issued.

After-Hours Problem Line

Call or text the after-hours problem line 240-490-CUPF (2873) when:

1. Your group is locked out of the building
2. You are unable to locate staff assistance in the building
3. You need to leave a message about problems encountered during community use
