User Accountability

As previously announced, CUPF has implemented standard procedures in order to ensure that concerns raised by Montgomery County Public Schools are handled equitably. Major violations will result in an 18-month ban from use of schools. Lesser violations will result in a written warning for the first violation, a mandatory meeting with CUPF and a written warning for the second violation, and an 18-month ban from use of school facilities for the third violation. Additional information is available online at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/cupf.

Public Forum on Religious Land Use

On Wednesday, September 7, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm, at the Silver Spring Civic Building, located at One Veterans Place, Silver Spring, Maryland, there will be a free public forum on the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLUIPA). The featured speaker will be Eric W. Treene, Special Counsel for Religious Discrimination with the U. S. Department of Justice. RLUIPA is a federal law passed in 2000 to prevent local faith communities from being overburdened by local government land use policies. This may impact user groups in the faith community that are seeking permanent space for their organization. For more information and to register, click here.

Large Events

Large events at school facilities may not request space via ActiveMONTGOMERY. Applicants must set an appointment to meet with Mr. Bill Polman to submit an application in-person. Please email Mr. Polman at william.polman@montgomerycountymd.gov to arrange a time to meet and submit your application and any other related information. The term “large event” applies to any event requesting: an expected attendance of 500 or more persons; or use of a school auditorium, regardless of attendance expected; or use of athletic facilities including gymnasium, stadium, track or field use for tournaments, fundraisers, track meets or other similar events, regardless of attendance expected; or advanced booking due to size, scope or nature; or significant set-up; or extensive audio-visual equipment or services; or an amount of space or hours of use that requires multiple support staff.
