Confidential Paper Shredding/Recycling and Reusable Clothing/Household Items Reuse Collection Events

 

Montgomery County, MD Department of Environmental Protection -  Recycling and Resource Management Division

 

We have two remaining confidential paper shredding/recycling and reusable clothing/household items reuse collection events for residents of Montgomery County, Maryland scheduled for this fall.  

 

  • Sunday, October 13, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.* at Clarksburg High School, located at 22500 Wims Road, Clarksburg, MD 20871

  • Saturday, November 16, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.* at Watkins Mill High School, located at 10301 Apple Ridge Road, Gaithersburg, MD 20879

 

*Please note: Montgomery County reserves the right to close these events before 2:00 p.m. if the mobile shredding trucks become filled to capacity.  No cars will be permitted to enter the parking lot of the schools after 2:00 p.m. Events will be canceled for inclement/severe weather. We will post updates to our website (www.montgomerycountymd.gov/recycling) regarding cancellations no later than 7:00 a.m. on the day of the event.

All paper will be shredded on-site in a secure mobile document destruction truck. This is a drive-through event, and we ask you to stay in your vehicle at all times. For everyone’s safety, you will not be able to watch your paper being shredded.

Acceptable types of confidential paper for shredding include:

  • Personal confidential papers such as financial and legal documents, receipts, and tax and medical records
  • Papers with staples or paper clips (please remove all binder clips and rubber bands)
  • Envelopes with plastic windows

Please do not bring these materials:

  • Paper in 3-ring binders and spiral notebooks (please remove paper from binders and removal spiral bindings)
  • Electronic items or multi-media materials (DVDs, CDs, tapes, hard drives, or computer disks)
  • Batteries, flammables, or combustibles
  • No binders or hanging file folders
  • Plastic bags or credit cards

There is a limit of 5 small cardboard boxes (i.e. boxes used for reams of office paper) or paper bags (i.e., grocery-size type paper bags) of confidential paper for shredding per vehicle.

Montgomery County, MD residents can also bring reusable clothing and other household items, including furniture, that is in good condition, for donations benefiting the following organizations:

These events are free of charge and open to residents of Montgomery County, Maryland only. No businesses, please.
