Paper Shredding Event Update

Division of Solid Waste Services
Our next confidential paper shredding/recycling and clothing & household item collection event is Sunday, April 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at John F. Kennedy High School located at 1901 Randolph Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20902.
Services provided by, and partners in these events are:
- Clean Cut Shredding
- American Red Cross
- National Children’s Center
- National Federation for the Blind
Reusable Clothing and Household Goods Reuse Donation Guidelines Benefiting: American Red Cross (April 8th event); National Children’s Center (May 12th event); and National Federation for the Blind (June 3rd event). Bring items that are in working/usable condition. Please bring gently used clothing and small loose items in bags or boxes. Tax-deduction receipts will be available upon request.
- Clean clothing, shoes, accessories, and bed and bath items
- Miscellaneous household goods such as dining ware, pots and pans,glassware, picture frames, power tools, small electronics, arts and crafts supplies, and garden tools
- Books, CDs, DVDs, etc. (no encyclopedias and textbooks)
- Furniture and other items such as tables, chairs, bookshelves, and lamps
- Please -- no large appliances, automobile parts, or construction materials

The event is free of charge and open to residents of Montgomery County, MD only. No businesses, please. There is a limit of 5 small cardboard boxes (i.e. boxes used for reams of office paper) or paper bags (i.e., grocery-size type paper bags) of confidential paper for shredding per vehicle.

This is a drive-through event, and we ask you to stay in your vehicle. For everyone’s safety, you will not be able to watch your paper being shredded.
Acceptable types of confidential paper for shredding include:
- Personal confidential paper such as financial and legal documents, receipts, and tax and medical records
- Papers with staples or paper clips (please remove all binder clips and rubber bands)
- Envelopes with plastic windows
Please do not bring these materials:
- Paper in 3-ring binders and spiral notebooks (please remove paper from binders and removal spiral bindings)
- Electronic items or multi-media materials (DVDs, CDs, tapes, hard drives, or computer disks)
- Batteries, flammables, combustibles, binders, or hanging files
- Plastic bags or credit cards
