TAKE 10 FOR A HEALTHY COMMUNITY.

We take our duty to get the word out about Census 2020 very seriously. The responses from this year’s decennial Census will impact numerous critical services to the citizens of Maryland - including how many vaccines may be apportioned to each county, city or municipality of the state. These services also include healthcare, roads, infrastructure projects, emergency services, and other matters important to our everyday lives. This is in addition to the $16 billion in census derived funding that will be available to Maryland..

Census Address Work Succeeded Despite Trouble Hiring Staff

Even though the U.S. Census Bureau had trouble finding workers for its massive address-verification work late last summer, it managed to complete the job under budget because of better-than-expected productivity of its staffers, according to a new report. The 32,000 workers sent out across the U.S. to double-check addresses ahead of the start of the 2020 census verified almost 20 addresses an hour compared with the expected goal of almost 16 addresses an hour, according to the report released this month from the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

Officials Encourage Census Participation

Officials continue to urge citizens to complete this year’s Census. While coronavirus concerns dominate the news, officials are reminding citizens that the 2020 Census is still underway. “Hopefully by people being home and not being out and about they’ll have a chance to go ahead and fill out the Census,” said Kelly Henry, coordinator of Worcester County’s Complete Count Committee.

The Worcester County Commissioners proclaimed April as Census 2020 Awareness Month at a meeting last week. Residents are encouraged to visit the website 2020census.gov to learn more.

Counties Promote Census Day… on Twitter

Census data is used to allocate billions of dollars in federal funding for education, health, transportation, housing, community services, and job training. Moreover, businesses and industries decide where to locate new facilities and services based on census data, creating new jobs and promoting economic growth. April 1 was Census Day, a key reference date for the 2020 Census—not a deadline, and there was no better time to remind households that responding to the 2020 Census is convenient, confidential and critical. Maryland’s counties took to Twitter to promote Census Day and remind residents to get counted!
