Maryland Census 2020 Staff Attend Prince George's County International/Immigrant Sub-Committee Census Meeting

Planning Secretary Robert McCord, Maryland Census Director Lorena Rivera, and Census Outreach Coordinator John Watson attended the Prince George’s County International/Immigrant Sub-Committee Census meeting on January 30. They had the opportunity to share the states census efforts and and reinforce our commitment to counting every Marylander, especially Marylanders in hard to count communities.

Secretary McCord Participates in the Launch of the Hanover Area Census Office 

On Wednesday, January 29, Planning Secretary Rob McCord attended the 2020 Hanover Area Census Office (ACO) Launch Event. Area Census Offices play pivotal roles throughout the census as they are responsible for area-wide hiring of census workers and serve as the hub and command centers for the door-to-door enumeration process that will take place during the Non-response Follow-up Phase. 

Planning's Chief of Staff at Howard County Chamber of Commerce

Maryland Department of Planning Chief of Staff Adam Gruzs spoke to the Howard County Chamber of Commerce on January 30 regarding the 2020 Census and the importance of counting everyone in Maryland.

Census 2020 a Topic at Maryland Statewide Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc Founders Day

On January 27, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority members from around the state gathered in Bethesda where, in addition to celebrating the founding of their chapter, Census 2020 was a major topic of discussion. Over 1,400 sorority members attended the event where information was shared on the importance of a complete census count.

The Maryland Council of ΔΣΘ is promoting Maryland Census 2020 through monthly newsletters.

Salisbury/Wicomico Complete Count Committee's Faith-Based Subcommittee Hosts Faith Dinner

The Salisbury/Wicomico CCC's faith-based subcommittee hosted faith leaders from around the county on Thursday evening, January 30, to participate and learn more about the Census 2020. Representatives from the U. S. Census Bureau along with the State of Maryland were on hand to present and answer questions. The pastors and their churches are trusted voices within the community that can help educate and encourage census participation so that Maryland is accurately counted and represented.

State Lawmakers Urge Participation in 2020 Census

The Dundalk Eagle was invited to join a Telephone Town Hall forum along with Maryland voters to discuss the Maryland General Assembly’s statewide attempt to inspire participation in the 2020 Census and their efforts to ensure the redistricting process results in fair maps.

The U.S. Census Bureau has made an online response tutorial on their YouTube channel. This preview is an excerpt of the 2020 Census Video Language Guide. The full version - in English and 59 non-English languages - will become available in early 2020

Md. Dept. of Planning Awards Prince George's County Municipalities

On Friday, the Maryland Department of Planning announced that 18 Prince George’s County municipalities have been awarded over $200,000 i to support the accurate counting of the state and its local jurisdictions for the 2020 Census, according to a news release.

Census Bureau Releases 2020 Census Response Rate Challenge Toolkit

The U.S. Census Bureau has released a downloadable toolkit geared toward helping local elected officials and community leaders plan a Response Rate Challenge for the 2020 Census. The new toolkit encourages leaders in every town, city and state to challenge their communities to improve upon their 2010 Census response rates in the upcoming national census.

Census Bureau Releases New Content on 2020Census.gov in 59 Languages

The U.S. Census Bureau recently launched an update to 2020census.gov that includes content in 59 languages, including language assistance guides and videos that explain how to complete the 2020 Census questionnaire online, by phone or by mail when it becomes available in mid-March. People can respond to the census online and by phone in 13 languages. The expansive site includes in-depth information in both English and Spanish.

ICYMI: In Student Housing, Off Campus or With Parents, College Students Count in 2020 Census

College Towns Depend on Accurate Count of Students Living in Area. A freshman living on campus in student housing. A junior varsity athlete sharing an off-campus house with teammates. A senior living solo in an off-campus apartment. Even though many residents of a typical American college town might move away after they graduate, they have to be counted while they live there.
