BALTIMORE, MD — The Maryland Department of Aging is currently accepting grant applications from nonprofit organizations and Area Agencies on Aging to expand Maryland’s aging-in-place programs. The competitive funding opportunity aligns with the Department’s commitment to empower older adults to live in the homes and communities of their choosing, regardless of age, income, or ability level.
“Older adults have the right to live safely, independently, and comfortably in communities of their choosing,” said Maryland Department of Aging Secretary Carmel Roques. “By prioritizing initiatives that help older Marylanders remain independent, we cultivate an environment of inclusivity that supports everyone’s right to self-determination as we age and makes communities stronger.”
This funding opportunity is intended to increase the capacity for local Area Agencies on Aging, Senior Villages, and nonprofit organizations to provide high-quality services and supports that allow older adults to age in place and live in supported communities among familiar environments. Services may include in-home personal care, help with home modifications, social engagement programs, and other supportive services including affordable transportation and economic assistance. Grants may also be used to foster social connection and community engagement opportunities for older adults, enabling them to stay connected and thriving in their communities.
The older adult population in Maryland is expected to grow considerably over the next several decades. Many older adults who want to age in their homes have limited alternatives due to the high cost of institutional or assisted living options. The FY25 aging-in-place grants support Governor Moore’s priority to ensure every Marylander has equitable access to adequate housing and the department’s Longevity Ready Maryland multisector plan which supports affordable housing and healthcare for all.
