Hurricane season hadn’t officially begun, yet Maryland has already been hit hard by several storms. These weather events have caused significant property damage, leaving many residents to pick up the pieces. Now is the time for Marylanders to prepare for hurricane season. It’s a good idea to review your current insurance policy and make sure you have adequate coverage to protect your homes and vehicles. You can also visit our website to learn more about flood insurance. We have compiled resources to help you prepare.
If you were impacted by the recent severe storms, you can find resources on what to do "After the Storm" on our website.
While the Maryland Insurance Administration does not sell insurance and we cannot recommend a particular policy or insurance company, we do want to help you learn what types of coverage are available. Additionally, we are here to assist you if you have a complaint involving an insurer, an insurance producer, public adjuster or adviser.
June is a time to recognize both Pride Month and Juneteenth—celebrating diversity, resilience, and the ongoing fight for equality. Your right to equality in health care is protected by Maryland law. If your needs are not being met by your health plan or health insurance company, contact the Health Coverage Assistance Team (H-CAT) to get help.

The Maryland Insurance Administration is reminding consumers to proceed with caution when approached by contractors with unsolicited offers to inspect your home for damage from the storms in order to generate an insurance claim.
Here are some tips from the Attorney General's Office:
-
Deal only with licensed contractors. Ask to see the worker’s Home Improvement Commission license, and check the license number and expiration date
-
Beware of roving con artists. These scam artists knock on people’s doors and offer to do work such as roofing, gutter cleaning, driveway paving, or tree pruning.
-
Don’t pay more than one-third of the total contract price in advance. In Maryland, it’s against the law for a contractor to accept more than one-third in advance.

If you're "glamping," you'll want to read our Insurance FAQs on Recreational Vehicles. RVs can include motorhomes, camper vans, coaches, caravans, fifth-wheel trailers, popup campers, and truck campers. If the RV is self-propelled by its own motor, under state law, it must be insured.

Boat Insurance
Before you hit the bay for that epic boating trip, do you need boat insurance? In Maryland, there is no law, regulation or other rule that requires you to purchase insurance for your boat or personal watercraft. It is still a good idea to purchase an insurance policy to protect you and your investment. For more information on boat insurance, click here.
