HEALTH EXCHANGE BOARD TO VOTE ON NEXT STEPS TO STRENGTHEN HEALTH INSURANCE MARKET
BALTIMORE (APRIL 16, 2018) – The board of trustees of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange (MHBE) will vote Monday on proceeding with a reinsurance program the Maryland legislature approved and Governor Hogan signed into law during the recent session of the Maryland General Assembly. MHBE operates Maryland Health Connection, the state-based health insurance marketplace.
The purpose of the reinsurance program is to hold down consumer costs and bring greater certainty to Maryland’s individual market for health insurance for 2019 and 2020. The MHBE board will establish parameters for the program. It will also vote on authorizing staff to apply to the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to request approval for an “innovation waiver” to create the program under Section 1332 of the Affordable Care Act.
The board meeting will be held at 2 p.m. at the offices of the Maryland Health Care Commission, 4160 Patterson Ave., Baltimore, MD 21215. The meeting is open to the public. An agenda is available at marylandhbe.com/about-us/board
