Message from Special Secretary Rhee

Fall Transitions

September is often a time of transition for small business owners as the slower pace of summer shifts into high gear and new strategies or projects get underway. The weakest area of a new initiative is often the "hand-off" points as the project transitions through the idea stage into development and on to implementation.  To ensure success, develop a playbook; be it a literal document or perhaps a video that explains, in detail, the outcomes you are trying to achieve. Clearly communicate the benefits to everyone involved and pay particular attention to transition points. Provide the ability for your team to collaborate at each transition point, and set monitoring thresholds between transitions to make sure nothing falls through the cracks. Poor transitions can result in dire consequences. Prevent any negative impact and ensure your project has measurable results by thoughtfully managing transitions.

Sincerely,

Jimmy Rhee
Special Secretary

Ready, Set, GROW! Makes First Visit to Carroll County

Congratulations to the three Carroll County business owners who received Governor's Citations when we hosted our Ready, Set, GROW! Procurement Connections Workshop at Carroll Community College recently. This was the first time the event has been in Carroll County and we were pleased to partner with Miller Resources for Entrepreneurs and draw over 40 small business owners and entrepreneurs to the half day workshop. We highlighted insightful tips for navigating the procurement process and connected vendors to state and county buyers as well as small business resource partners. Carroll Community College President Dr. James D. Ball and Special Secretary Jimmy Rhee presented three local entrepreneurs with a Governor’s Citation in recognition of their contributions to Maryland’s small business community. Congratulations to Mildred Rodman, owner of Growing Ideas Sustainable Gardening, Lee Ann Young, owner of Uncharted HR, LLC, and  Harmony Autry & Melody Schell, co-owners of Firehouse Pottery & Arts, LLC.

Attention eMMA Vendors -
Register Your Product and Service Codes Today!

Maryland recently launched a new eProcurement platform called eMaryland Marketplace Advantage (eMMA). All vendors, both those who completed the preliminary registration and those who are registering as a new vendor, must identify their product and service categories as part of their vendor profile. No old commodity codes were carried over from the former system. This is important as it directly impacts the solicitation notices you will receive from the system. Please read the eMMA Managing Vendor Profile Quick Reference Guide for instructions and be sure your product and service codes are up-to-date and accurate.
