Businesses that play by the rules deserve quick and efficient service. I’m proud to share the launch of our new online Environmental Service Center, an important step in making permitting faster, easier, and more accessible for homeowners and businesses.
We are moving from traditional paper-based systems to a digital one. Processes that once relied on mailed applications, paper checks, and manual reviews are becoming more efficient and transparent. Turnaround times for 115 different permits improved by 25% last year, and this new system will make the process even faster.
The new system allows applicants to search for permits, upload documents electronically, track applications in real time, and submit payments electronically. This helps reduce delays that previously added weeks to projects and approvals.
These improvements support a wide range of permits and certifications, including drinking water certifications, construction stormwater permits, and tidal wetland licenses. Just as importantly, the changes are improving customer service while maintaining the strong environmental protections Marylanders expect and deserve.
Modernizing how we work is part of our broader commitment to building a more responsive and effective government. The Environmental Service Center is an important step toward making state services more efficient, accessible, and user-friendly for the people we serve.
