We just wrapped up another successful tree planting season, and I couldn’t be more proud of the progress we’re making toward our goal of planting 5 million trees. Each tree planted represents more than just something nice to look at. It’s living infrastructure.Â
Maryland’s trees include some of the oldest and largest in the eastern United States, like the Wye Oak, once the biggest white oak in the nation. From mountain forests to coastal wetlands, they provide unmatched beauty, shade, and habitat across every corner of the state.
Trees clean our air, cool our neighborhoods, stabilize our soil, and capture carbon, helping us fight climate change in real, tangible ways. But here’s the most important part: every tree counts.Â
If you’ve planted trees this season, whether in your yard, your community, or through an organization, please take a moment to register your trees on our website. By adding to the statewide total, you’re helping us track our collective impact and celebrate the power of community-driven climate action. Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and I had a chance to plant 40 trees in Carroll Park just the other day, and the process of doing so just never gets old
