Working together is what will help us reach our climate goals, because one person, one agency, one state, one country cannot do it alone.
Maryland joined two coalitions to successfully compete and win some major grants from the U.S. EPA. The $4.3 billion Climate Pollution Reduction Grants program helps states and local jurisdictions implement green workforce training, plant trees and electrify buildings and transportation. Maryland was awarded $130 million as part of two coalitions led by North Carolina and New Jersey.
The Clean Corridor Coalition of New Jersey, Maryland, Connecticut, Delaware will receive approximately $250 million, including $2.5 million for the Maryland Department of Environment and $78 million for the Maryland Department of Transportation to support strategic planning and transformative investments in zero-emission infrastructure for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles on the Interstate 95 corridor.
The Climate Pollution Reduction Grants Atlantic Conservation Coalition of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland, received more than $400 million, including $50 million for the Maryland departments of the environment, natural resources, agriculture and transportation for natural carbon sequestration through improved forest management, agroforestry, and the protection and restoration of highly threatened, high-carbon coastal habitats and forests.
Maryland was one of only a handful of states to win two separate grants and also received among the highest awards. Great things can happen when we pool our resources, share a common goal and collaborate.
