Great news hot off the presses for 2024: Our Climate Pollution Reduction Plan is out!
Please read this document. It establishes the roadmap for Maryland to reach our ambitious climate goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 60 percent from 2006 levels by 2031, achieving 100 percent clean energy by 2035, and reaching net zero emissions by 2045.
We have compiled the data, reviewed the science, and incorporated ideas from the public to come up with the best plan possible. Maryland is a leader in addressing climate change, and the plan puts into words how we plan to make our ambitious climate goals a reality.
The plan is also about transparency. Everyone has a say and can review the plan to understand how we will reach our bold goals. I want Marylanders to know that we are committed to being strategic and analytical as we move forward to improve our environment.
One of the great things about this plan is that addressing climate change and building a new green economy with well-paying jobs are not mutually exclusive goals. This plan is projected to create more than 27,000 jobs, many of which will not require a college degree. We are building the green economy and leaving no one behind.
The plan also serves as a commitment to the general public, elected officials, nonprofit organizations, and businesses, that we will diligently work to achieve those goals and that we are all in this together. We know that reaching the bold goals we have will not be easy and that we have a long way to go.
We can do this together!
