Thursdays: Relaxing Nature Hike 5:30 p.m. at Kingfisher Overlook
Join volunteer ranger Bonnie for a leisurely walk on natural surface trails, with lots of stops to look for interesting plants, animals, and insects. Suitable for all ages. Rain or thunder cancels program.
September 3, 4, and 5: Pontoon Tours 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Boat Center
Take a relaxing 45-minute boat ride on the “Blue Heron.” Learn about history of the area and search for wildlife who call Clopper Lake home. Space is limited. Visit the Boat Center to reserve tickets. Cost is $4 in addition to park entrance fees.

September 6: Nature Crafts: Hummingbirds 10 a.m. - noon at the Nature Shack by the Tire Playground
Hummingbirds are leaving our area to migrate south for the winter. Come learn about migration and make a simple hummingbird craft.
September 10: Second Saturdays at Button Farm Noon - 3 p.m. at Button Farm 16820 Black Rock Road, Germantown
Join historians and naturalists at Button Farm Living History Center on the second Saturday of each month from May to October. Join our park naturalist from 1-2:30. September 10-11 is Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend. We invite Girl Scouts, families, and any interested non-Scouts to learn about outdoor etiquette, Leave No Trace ethics, and some basic hiking skills. Then, go for a hike along the park trails to see what you can discover!

September 13: Nature Crafts: Monarch Butterfly Puppets 10 a.m. - noon at the Nature Shack by the Tire Playground
Monarch butterflies are starting their migration to sunny Mexico. Come learn about this amazing journey and then make a simple monarch puppet.
September 18: Celebrate Women Hike 2 p.m. at the Park Office
The third Sunday in September is dedicated to both National Women’s Friendship and Wife Appreciation Day. So grab your friend or wife (or just bring yourself!) and come for an easy hike on trails that start at the park office.

September 20: Nature Crafts: Butterfly and Chrysalis Craft 10 a.m. - noon at the Nature Shack by the Tire Playground
Butterflies make a marvelous change from caterpillar to butterfly. Come learn about this change, then make your very own caterpillar that turns into a butterfly.
September 24: Izaak Walton League of America (IWLA) Open House 1 - 5 p.m. at the IWLA Rockville Chapter 18301 Waring Station Road, Germantown
Drop by our good neighbors across the creek at the Izaak Walton League Open House. The Friends of Seneca Creek and Patuxent River State Parks will be there with a display of natural history items found in the park. The chapter will have lots of activities for all ages, from archery to fishing. Entrance and activities are free.

September 27: Nature Crafts: Acorn Squirrels 10 a.m. - noon at the Nature Shack by the Tire Playground
Gray squirrels store nuts and plant trees in what is called “scatter hoarding." Come learn about the interactions between squirrels and nut trees. Then, craft your own squirrel using acorns. We have wooden acorns available for those with tree nut allergies.
Unless otherwise noted, events are held rain or shine, free and fun for all ages; donations are always welcome. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
Dress for the weather/activity, wear sunscreen and insect repellent, bring plenty of water and snacks, and remember to check for ticks.
