Celebrating Our Earth this Spring

As we continue to recover from the pandemic, I am more enthused than ever to welcome back spring and get outside. April in particular is a month full of events and opportunities to highlight our state’s amazing natural resources. In fact, it is becoming known as “Earth Month” for its many commemorative days including Maryland Arbor Day on April 7, Earth Day on April 22, and National Arbor Day on April 30. Read more.

Spring is the season to plant tree seedlings! Whether you want to reforest timberland or create a windbreak, improve wildlife habitat or just enjoy the feeling of planting trees, this video will guide you in correctly planting and caring for your seedlings. Mark Your Calendar for "Welcome to Boating" Clinics 

Are you ready for boating season? The Marine Trades Association of Maryland and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources are organizing two "Welcome to Boating" Clinics in cooperation with the BoatUS Foundation, May 4 and 6 from 4-7 p.m. at Sandy Point State Park. Join boating professionals to learn and/or refresh boating skills.

Start planning your camping trip to Maryland’s public lands this year! Reserve your space at nearly 40 Maryland public lands statewide—from backpack camping to RVs to cabins, beachfront to forest—using the Maryland Park Service online reservation system. The reservation website allows users to browse hundreds of campsites on state-owned public lands and reserve their space ahead of time.

Tune in to MPT's Annual Chesapeake Bay Week®

Maryland Public Television will celebrate the Chesapeake Bay region April 18-24 during the annual Chesapeake Bay Week®, a slate of programs and documentaries highlighting the importance and fragility of the nation’s largest estuary.

The cornerstone of this year’s Chesapeake Bay Week is the premiere of Creatures of the Chesapeake on April 20 at 8 p.m. This special program, which was shot partially at DNR's Piney Point Aquaculture Center, uses macro photography to provide an up-close look at some of the bay’s most iconic and unusual species.
