Old Time Jam Fiddler

August 2: Old-Time Jam
6:30-9 p.m. at the Lake House

Musicians and listeners of all ages are invited to share and enjoy traditional “old-timey” music. Snacks and gifts will be available for purchase.


Red Spotted Newt

August 3: Herp Hike
2 p.m. at the Lake House

During this kid-friendly program, families are invited to join a ranger on a quest to find reptiles and amphibians. Wear hiking boots or other appropriate footwear. 


Greg Latta

August 3: Greg Latta Concert
7 p.m. at the Lake House

Skilled at playing more than 15 instruments, Latta is an award-winning singer/songwriter. He will perform Appalachian, Irish, old-time and traditional music. 


Yellow Trail

August 4: Hike with a Ranger                                            10 a.m. at the Lake House (Shine only)

Join a park ranger on this 2-mile hike and learn about some of New Germany's native plants and animals along the way.


Smokey Bear Birthday Cake

August 9: Happy Birthday, Smokey Bear!
5-7 p.m. outside the Lake House (inside if it rains)

Join Smokey Bear in celebration of his 75th birthday! Wildland firefighters will present the true story of Smokey Bear and his role in fire prevention. A wildland fire truck will be on display, and kids will have a chance to put their Smokey skills to the test. Smokey will share his birthday cake too!     


Frisbee

August 10: Ultimate Frisbee
2:30 p.m. at the Lake House (Shine only) 

Join staff for a friendly Healthy Parks, Healthy People pickup game. Please wear sneakers.

August 10: Volunteer Meeting
9 a.m. at the Lake House

Anyone interested in volunteering or becoming a member of the Friends of New Germany State Park is encouraged to attend this quarterly meeting.

New Germany Night Sky

August 10: Night Hike
8:30 p.m. at the Lake House (Shine only)

A park ranger will lead this 1.5 mile nocturnal-themed nature hike. Please bring a flashlight.


New Germany Cabin 11, 1934

Self-Guided: New Germany - Past & Present
Daily, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Ranger Station 

Stop by the Ranger Station to start this self-guided walking tour, and learn the history of New Germany as a 19th century industrial community, Civilian Conservation Corps camp and state park.  


Unless otherwise noted, events are held rain or shine, free and fun for all ages; donations are always welcome. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Dress for the weather/activity, wear sunscreen and insect repellent, bring plenty of water and snacks, and check for ticks.

New Germany staff also manages Big Run, Casselman River Bridge and Dans Mountain state parks.

Annual Pass Available for Purchase
$75 for Marylanders; $100 for out-of-state visitors

Our annual State Parks and Trails Passport grants unlimited day-use admission and boat launching at state parks, and a 10 percent discount on state-operated concessions and boat rentals. 

To enhance convenience and value, this year's pass will arrive in a self-contained packet with a detachable hang-tag, and will be valid for a full year from the month of purchase. 

Our network of 75 state parks include more than 900 miles of trails for biking, hiking and horseback riding, as well as unique water access and camping facilities.
