Upcoming Events at Rocky Gap


July 5 at 5 p.m.
Open Paddle

This paddle is unguided but a lifeguard will be on duty. Meet at the Boat House in the North Beach day use area. Canoe and kayak rentals will be available (first come, first serve). All boats must be returned by 7 p.m. 


July 5 at 6 p.m.
Wild Women’s Wednesday: Guided Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Whether you’ve been looking to try it or are already a fan, all are welcome to join! Instructions and tips will be provided before we set off onto Lake Habeeb. Optional core exercises will be thrown in for those looking for an extra challenge. Please arrive a few minutes early for life jacket and paddle distribution (first come, first serve). Meet at the Boat House on North Beach in the day use area.


July 6 at 6 p.m.
Guided Open Swim

If you’re thinking about entering a triathlon, would like to improve your swimming technique or simply want to increase your comfort in open water, join master swim coach Justin Anderson for a guided open swim. Justin and our head lifeguard will both be available to help you focus on stroke development and form. Goggles are recommended. Meet at West Beach in the day use area.


July 6 at 7:15 p.m.
Hula Hooping Workout

Hula hooping isn’t just for fun! Learn to use the hoop as a useful fitness tool. Get a total body workout while still having a blast. Quality handmade hoops from Rhythm Hoop Dance will be available for purchase 15 minutes before we start; loaner hoops will also be available. Meet near West Beach in the day use area.


July 7 at 1 p.m.
Wonderful Woodpeckers Hike

Join us as we hike part of the Lakeside Loop Trail looking for the signs and sounds of our woodpecker friends! Meet at the Nature Center.


July 7 at 5:30 p.m.
Park Protectors Plastic Pick Up Paddle

Get some exercise and spend quality time with others who share appreciation for nature. Whomever collects the most trash will win a prize and all participants will receive a thank-you item. Meet at the North Beach Boat House in the day use area. Gloves and trash bags will be provided.


July 7 at 7 p.m. 
Canyon Overlook Hike

Meet at the Touch of Nature parking lot for a 45-minute hike through an old hemlock forest to view the “gap” of Rocky Gap. Great for beginners and families!


July 8 at 9 a.m.
Morning Beach Yoga

Begin your day with purpose! Join Yogafit instructor Leslee for an invigorating morning practice on North Beach. Bring a mat or blanket.


July 9 at 11 a.m.
Guided Lakeside Hike

Join a naturalist for an hourlong hike on the Lakeside Loop Trail. Along the way, learn about the different plants and wildlife you can find here in Western Maryland. Meet at the Nature Center.


July 10 at 5:30 p.m.
Open Swim 

Need to prepare for an upcoming race? Looking for a new fitness challenge? We have just the option for you! Join us on West Beach in the day use area for open swims. If air and water temperatures do not equal 120 degrees, you must wear a wet/dry suit to participate. Lifeguards will guide your swim to provide a safe environment.


July 10 at 6:30 p.m.
Trail Run

Join the lifeguards for a 1.5-mile trail run along a section of the Lakeside Loop Trail. Meet at the Boat House in the North Beach day use area.


July 11 at 5:30 p.m.
HIIT Workout

Change up your workouts with this 45-minute high intensity course instructed by health coach, educator and personal trainer Carey Moffatt. Meet in the day use area beside the Mountain View Pavilion. All fitness levels welcome.


July 12 at 6 p.m.
Wild Women’s Wednesday: Peaceful Wildlife Paddle

Take a paddle on the wild side. We’ll hug the shoreline looking for birds, aquatic life and other critters, then stop along the shore for those who would like to get their feet wet. Paddlers will have their choice of boat: canoes, kayaks or paddle boards (first come, first serve). Meet at the Boat House in the North Beach day use area.


July 13 at 5 p.m.
Happy Hour Paddle

De-stress from your work day with a guided paddle on Lake Habeeb. Paddlers will have the choice of canoes, kayaks or paddle boards. Paddlers will have their choice of boat: canoes, kayaks or paddle boards (first come, first serve). Meet at the Boat House in the North Beach day use area.


July 13 at 6 p.m.
Hula Hooping Dance Sequence Workout

The hula hoop is a versatile tool for everything from fun to fitness and even dance. This workshop will focus on rhythm and movement with your hoop. Learn a fun hoop dance sequence and unlock a new approach to dance! Quality hand-made hoops from Rhythm Hoop Dance will be available for purchase 15 minutes before we start; loaner hoops will also be available. Meet near West Beach in the day use area.


July 13 at 7:15 p.m.
Sunset Beach Yoga

De-stress from the day and join Yogafit Instructor Leslee for a peaceful beach yoga practice. Emphasis will be on poses that help keep you balanced and grounded, all while focusing on the power of your breath. Meet on West Beach, and bring a mat or blanket.


July 14 at 6 p.m.
Sunset Paddle

Start your weekend with some fun and adventure! Join Naturalist Katelynn for an exploration paddle on Lake Habeeb. Paddlers will have their choice of boat: paddle boards, kayaks or canoes (first come, first serve). Meet at the Boat House on North Beach in the Day Use Area.


July 15 at 2:45 p.m.
Hike with Fido

Hit the trail with your furry friend. We’ll meet at the Touch of Nature parking lot and hike about 2 miles of the Lakeside Loop Trail. There will be a few spots for water-loving pooches to cool off in the water. Dogs must be kept on leashes and please make sure that they are up-to-date on rabies vaccines.


July 16 at 3 p.m.
HIIT and Core Strength Workout

Push yourself to reach your fitness goals during this High Intensity Interval Training and core workout combo. Instructor Rae will lead you through circuits of 30-second burst exercises followed by a rest period. This full body workout will end with a 10-minute segment focused on increasing core strength and improving balance. Meet in front of the amphitheater off Pleasant Valley Road. Bring a water bottle.
