Upcoming Events at Rocky Gap


June 21 at 3 p.m.
Weed Warriors Hike

Come to the Nature Center to learn about the plant invaders of our park and help naturalists stop them from spreading. Some of the tips will help you identify and remove invasive plants in your own yard too, making them more wildlife-friendly!


June 21 Welcome Summer! Summer Solstice Fit Night 

Celebrate the first day of summer and the longest day of the year with three great outdoor fitness opportunities!

6 p.m.: Wild Women’s Wednesday: 3,000 Step Hike
Meet Naturalist Jenna by the boat house on North Beach as we aim to hike 3,000 steps (approximately 1.5 miles) along the Lakeside Loop Trail in 30 minutes. Everyone welcome; we will be back in time for the workout at 6:45. 

6:45 p.m.: Quick HIIT Workout
If you’ve been curious about HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) Workouts don’t let the name scare you! All fitness levels are welcome and the workout can be personalized to meet your needs. Join Jen Thomas, health educator, coach and personal trainer in the day use area near the Hawks Nest concession building.

7:30 p.m.: Summer Solstice Sunset Beach Yoga
Watch the sunset on the longest day of the year as you practice yoga on the beach! Meet at the West Beach day use area with a towel, blanket or mat. All skill levels welcome.


June 22 at 6 p.m.
Sunset Paddle

Enjoy a peaceful paddle on Lake Habeeb. You’ll be able to choose between a kayak or canoe. Meet at the boat house in the day use area about 10 minutes ahead of time.


June 23 at 7 p.m.
Settlers Hike

Join a naturalist at the Nature Center to go on this fun fitness hike along the Settlers Path and Lakeside Loop trails. This is a moderate hike; bring water and wear comfortable shoes. 


June 24 at 10 a.m.
She Explores Rocky Gap

Grab your girlfriends, sisters, mothers, daughters or come solo! We’ll hike into the beautiful shaded gorge, look for wildflowers and wildlife, and enjoy the creek before conquering an uphill challenge on the hike back. Meet Naturalist Jenna at the Touch of Nature parking lot. Water, a snack and close-toed shoes are recommended. If you want to explore the creek, wear shoes that you don’t mind getting wet. Appropriate for ages 7 and up; children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

June 24 at 3 p.m.
Guided Lakeside Hike 

Meet a naturalist at the Nature Center and learn about the different plants and wildlife you can find in Western Maryland on an hour hike along the Lakeside Loop Trail. 


June 25 at 3 p.m.
Dog Hike

Hit the trail with your furry friend. We’ll meet at the Touch of Nature parking lot and hike about 2 miles of the Lakeside Loop Trail. There will be a few spots for water-loving pooches to cool off in the water. Dogs must be kept on leashes and please make sure that they are up-to-date on rabies vaccines.


June 26 at 5:30 p.m.
Open Swim 

Need to prepare for an upcoming race? Looking for a new fitness challenge? We have just the option for you! Join us on West Beach in the day use area for open swims. If air and water temperatures do not equal 120 degrees, you must wear a wet/dry suit to participate. Lifeguards will guide your swim to provide a safe environment.


June 27 at 5:30 p.m.
HIIT Training

This 45-minute high intensity course is instructed by Jen Thomas, health educator, coach and personal trainer. Meet in the day use area beside the Mountain View Pavilion. All fitness levels welcome.


June 28 at 6 p.m.
Wild Women’s Wednesday: Intro to Backpacking

Looking to take your adventures to the next level? Join naturalist Jenna for a hands-on intro to backpacking and camping. We’ll chat about the basics: selecting gear, packing, where to go, safety and more. We’ll practice putting up tents, packing backpacks and even purifying water from Lake Habeeb. Bring your questions and any gear that you may want to practice with. All levels of outdoor experience welcome. Meet at the Hawks Nest Concession Building in the day use area.


June 29 at 6 p.m.
Intro to Hula Hoop Beach Workout

Looking to jazz up your workouts and have some fun? Join Desiree from Rhythm Hoop Dance for an introductory 45-minute workout covering hula hooping basics and a dance move or two. Her quality handmade hoops will be available for purchase. Hoops will also be available to borrow. Meet near West Beach in the day use area.

June 29 at 7 p.m.
Sunset Beach Yoga

Take in the peaceful views and sounds of nature while practicing yoga. Bring a towel, blanket or mat and meet at West Beach in the day use area. All skill levels welcome.


June 30 at 1 p.m.
Rocky Trail Hike

Kick off your weekend a little early by hitting the trail. Meet a naturalist at the Nature Center for this hourlong hike.
