On July 26, 2019, the Board of Physical Therapy Examiners received notice of a letter received by a licensee. The letter was reportedly from the "Maryland State Medical Board" advising that his/her license and NPI were being suspended for violations of the Aviation Drug Trafficking Control Act of 1984. The letter further directed the licensee to contact the the "DEA Officer-in-Charge" and provided a number and advises the licensee to follow the directions of the DEA officer.
Please be advised that THIS LETTER IS A SCAM. The only Board with authority to suspend an occupational therapy license is the Maryland Board of Occupational Therapy Practice. Before any suspension were to occur, the Board would have conducted a full investigation. As part of the investigation, you would have been contacted by a Board investigator for an in-person interview first. If you receive a letter like this or similar to it, please let the Board know.
Note: This does not include letters that were sent by the Maryland Board of OT regarding expiration of licenses due to failure to renew or failure to be fingerprinted in a timely manner. Those letters are legitimate.
Please contact the Board with any questions.
