TO: All Kent County residents, students, employees and visitors
FROM: Bill Webb, Kent County Health Officer
Since December 6th, COVID-19 metrics have not been available due to a network outage at The Maryland Department of Health (MDH). While Kent's community transmission risk has been HIGH for several months, the Kent County Health Department (KCHD) anticipates a RISE in positivity rate and other key metrics once data becomes available from MDH.
KCHD only gets lab results back from the tests that we directly administer. Since individuals have many options for testing throughout Maryland, we are unable to accurately predict how many new cases have been detected in the county since December 6th. Of the tests we have administered, 26 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19. This community transmission is likely attributed in part to Thanksgiving and other social gatherings.
As we are in the holiday season, community transmission will continue to escalate unless we take reasonable steps to avoid exposure and transmission. This includes washing hands, wearing a well-fitting mask in indoor public spaces, avoiding large gatherings, getting tested if you have symptoms or were exposed to someone who has covid-19, and finally, getting vaccinated. Vaccines remain safe, and effective. While no vaccine is 100 percent effective, those who are fully vaccinated, have a substantially lower risk of being hospitalized or dying.
I want to thank each and every one of you for doing your part to keep yourselves, your family, and our community safe. We will get through this, but we need your help.
Please stay well,
William (Bill) Webb
Health Officer
