Documents, documents, documents! There are only 35 days until the official startup of the Maryland Primary Care Program (MDPCP). This short interval is interrupted by a major holiday season. This fleeting time period is punctuated by a hard deadline for document submission on Friday, Dec. 21. All in all, there is a lot of critical paperwork to complete in a very short time period.
Following the start up, we will have weeks, months, even years of time together to improve and refine the way in which we deliver quality, affordable healthcare to all Marylanders. Now; however, the priority is the mundane but important timely completion of required documents. Once these documents are completed they are done forever, and then it will be time to move onto more population-focused healthcare. Please remember that unless the documents are completed and submitted by the deadlines you will not be able to participate in program year one.
Now that that disclaimer is out of the way, I would like to tell you about some exciting developments for the near future of the MDPCP. First, we have begun developing a very powerful risk stratification/ predictive modeling tool that will be available to all practices and Care Transformation Organizations (CTOs) on the Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP) portal. More to come in the latter half of 2019. Second, we have engaged an experienced group to assist practices with behavioral health integration, including Screening Brief Intervention and Referral for Treatment (SBIRT) into practice Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) and workflows. In addition to SBIRT, we are working with our federal partners to make Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) waiver training available at no cost and at convenient venues for our providers. Last, but far from least, is the very complete, multimodal Learning System that will begin with a joint State and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) webinar in December. This Learning System is world class, tailored to the MDPCP, and draws from years of the CMS Comprehensive Primary Care (CPC+) program experience, in addition to including the State’s coaching team.
The details on documents, timelines and ongoing presentations follow in the newsletter below.
Wishing you a happy holiday season,
