Businesses looking for qualified employees to fill openings in their company can register to be a vendor at the Susquehanna Workforce Network job fair on Thursday, September 18 at the APGFCU Arena at Harford Community College. Employer registration is $225. Click here to register.


Learn How to Become a Franchise Owner at Seminar on September 18

Have you ever thought about opening or purchasing a franchise business? Join us at "How to Become a Business Owner Through the Purchase of a Franchise" on Thursday, September 18 at 5:15 p.m. at the CONVERGE Innovation Center in Aberdeen. Participants will learn key traits of a successful franchise, how to estimate startup costs and find funding options, and more. This event is free, but registration is required.

This seminar is the second session in our yearlong Level Up Harford business workshop series. The series will cover a new topic each month for entrepreneurs and business owners, and will provide valuable information and resources to those looking to start or grow a business. The next seminar, "How to Effectively Obtain Federal Government Contracts," will be held on October 9. 


Connect Your Company with Local Students at College and Career Fair on October 8

Harford County College and Career Fair

Harford County companies interested in hiring recent high school graduates can connect with students at the Harford County College & Career Fair on October 8 from 4 - 7 p.m. at the APGFCU Arena in Bel Air. Businesses can showcase their products and services to students exploring career opportunities post-graduation. More than 2,000 people attended last year's event. Registration is free for employers; dinner will be provided at the event. 


Veterans: Spots Still Available for Free Course on How to Start, Expand a Business

Project Opportunity Fall 2025


Registration is still open for the fall session of Project Opportunity, a free 10-week course for veterans looking to start their own business or expand their existing one. This entrepreneurship training program is designed solely for active duty military, guard/reserve personnel, and veterans. Fall classes are every Wednesday from September 17 to November 19 and will be held at the CONVERGE Innovation Center in Aberdeen. Class topics will include characteristics of successful entrepreneurs, creating a business plan, and more. The course will culminate in delivering a business pitch.

Local business owners can get their company's name in front of the thousands of attendees to the annual Maryland State BBQ Bash in Bel Air by becoming an event sponsor. Sponsorship benefits include a vendor table at the event, promotion on social media, and more. This year's bash will be held on Friday, October 10 and Saturday, October 11. Deadline to Apply for Enterprise Zone Tax Credit is October 1

The deadline to apply for tax credits for projects in the Aberdeen/Havre de Grace Enterprise Zone is Wednesday, October 1. 

The Enterprise Zone Tax Credit is for businesses looking to develop or open within the designated zone and who meet minimum requirements for job creation or capital investment, including, but not limited to, specified design standards. The Maryland Department of Commerce program is facilitated by Harford County to provide incentives in a certain area to:

  • Encourage creation of well-paying new jobs
  • Ensure retention and spur expansion of existing businesses
  • Promote development/occupancy of vacant, underused land and buildings
  • Support the county's commitment to revitalizing industrial areas

Upskill Your Employees with Harford County's Workforce Technical Training Grant

Workforce Technical Training

Harford County's Workforce Technical Training Grant is available to county employers seeking to improve their productivity. The program reimburses local businesses that provide intermediate or advanced technical training for existing employees that expands or improves business operations. All industries may apply. The deadline for this round of applications is Friday, October 17. For eligibility information and the application, click here

Harford County, Aberdeen Proving Ground Highlight Tech Transfer

Harford County and the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) at Aberdeen Proving Ground co-hosted a Technology Acceleration Summit on August 19 at Southampton Middle School in Bel Air, showcasing technology transfer opportunities with DEVCOM'S Army Research Laboratory and Chemical Biological Center to local businesses. The event's 97 guests learned about the technology transfer process and saw presentations on 3D laser folded electronics, biomanufacturing, synthetic biology and pyrotechnic technologies, and more. Business representatives could also directly speak with research scientists who developed the Army technologies.


Local Kudos for September

Dr. Theresa Felder, president of Harford Community College, was appointed to three board leadership positions to represent Harford County and the school. 

North Harford High School agriculture teacher and Envirothon advisor Laura O’Leary was named the Agriculture Teacher of the Year by the Maryland Association of Soil Conservation Districts.
