 Volunteers Needed for 2019
Point-In-Time Count
Westminster, Maryland, Thursday, November 1, 2018 – Carroll County is seeking volunteers for the Point-In-Time (PIT) count on Tuesday, January 22, 2019. All volunteers will be trained on Tuesday, January 15th from 10 am to 1 pm at the Carroll County Health Department. More details to follow.
The PIT count is conducted by the Carroll County Circle of Caring Homelessness Board. This count helps Carroll County to determine the extent of homelessness in the community, to conduct outreach to homeless persons and to obtain grant funding to support homeless assistance and homelessness prevention programs.
To complete the count, teams of trained volunteers will canvass locations throughout Carroll County, including soup kitchens, social service agencies, food pantries, schools, libraries, encampments and emergency shelters, to interview those who are homeless or who are at risk of becoming homeless. In addition, a Community Resource Fair will be held on the day of the PIT allowing citizens in need to connect with many agencies throughout the county. The Resource Fair will be held at the Grace Lutheran Church in Westminster.
Carroll County’s homeless count and survey coincides with the national effort by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to conduct annual homeless counts across the country during the last 10 days of January. In Carroll County, the PIT is planned, coordinated, and carried out by the Circle of Caring Homelessness Board.
If weather forces a cancellation of the PIT activities on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, the PIT will be held on Tuesday, January 29th, 2019.
