Dear Friends:
On Monday evening, I was honored to join elected officials, business and non-profit leaders, volunteers, and residents for a celebration in the Oliver neighborhood. We gathered to watch the lighting of a green leaf that symbolizes the rebirth and growth of this historic community thanks to the efforts of Come Home Baltimore, Operation Oliver, and countless residents.
We have a vision of a better, safer, and stronger Baltimore where every neighborhood is thriving and growing. This is not an easy task—and not something City Hall can do alone. It is going to take the efforts of business and non-profit partners (like those in Oliver) to leverage residents who believe that Baltimore’s best days are ahead.
We know that those who stayed in communities like Oliver for all these years did so because their love for Baltimore compels them to safeguard and uphold what is good and to stand firm in the face of their neighborhood’s challenges. That spirit rubs off on new neighbors and brings everyone together behind a single goal.
As mayor, I owe it to the people who are working to improve their communities to focus on the fundamentals that they care about: better schools, safer streets, and stronger neighborhoods. This commitment to the fundamentals is how we are going to grow our city by 10,000 families in 10 years. Our plan to grow Baltimore is as much about attracting new residents as it is about holding on to the families who already call Baltimore home.
The spirit of communities like Oliver—where people dream big for their families and their city; where individuals will do whatever it takes to make their neighborhoods better, safer, and stronger every day—is what will keep people here and attract new citizens.
Like the inhabitants of Oliver, I will never stop dreaming big dreams for Baltimore. As the mayor, and as a lifelong resident of Baltimore, I look forward to watching Oliver grow and thrive in the coming years. I will do everything I can to support their efforts and the efforts of those inspired by Oliver’s success.

Sincerely,
Stephanie Rawlings-Blake
