This week’s high temperatures could impact the Department of Public Works’ (DPW) operations, especially trash and recycling collections. To protect our crews and follow the new Maryland Occupational Safety and Health (MOSH) heat-related illness prevention guidelines, DPW may adjust or suspend services as conditions change. That means you may see our crews out at different times than usual.
Trash and Recycling Collection Will Continue:
• Crews may take longer than usual to complete their routes due to the high temperatures. • They may end routes early, take mandatory rest breaks, or pause collections if temperatures become unsafe.
|
How We’re Protecting Our Crews in the Heat:
• When the heat index is between 90°F and 99°F, crews take a minimum 10-minute break every 2 hours. • When the heat index reaches 100°F or higher, crews take a minimum 15-minute break every hour. • Staff are encouraged to stay hydrated, wear heat-appropriate gear, and monitor for signs of heat-related illness.
|
Here's How You Can Help Our Crews:
• Call 311 to report missed pickups. • Keep trash and recycling in bins with lids. • Leave bins out until they’re emptied. • Follow DPW on social media for updates.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to protect our workforce and maintain essential services during this period of extreme heat.
Stay safe and cool, Baltimore.
