 BALTIMORE, MD (December 2, 2024) – The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of the temporary road closures and parking restrictions that will be implemented for the 53rd annual lighting of the Washington Monument. The event will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in historic Mount Vernon.
In preparation for the event, the following streets will be closed to through traffic from 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 4th through 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2024, with detours and parking restrictions in effect:
- West side of N. Charles Street from E. Centre to E. Madison Streets
- West Mt. Vernon Place (both sides) from N. Charles to Cathedral Streets
In addition, the following streets will be closed to through traffic on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 6:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. with detours and parking restrictions in effect:
- East side of N. Charles Street from E. Centre to Read Streets
- Madison Street from St. Paul to Cathedral Streets
- Mt. Vernon Place (both sides) from St. Paul to N. Charles Streets
During the event, Transportation Enforcement Officers and the Baltimore City Police will be deployed in the vicinity to help facilitate the movement of traffic. All posted parking restrictions will be strictly enforced, and vehicles parked in violation will be ticketed and towed. Motorists are encouraged to download the Waze.com app for live detour navigation.
Charm City Circulator Service - Charm City Circulator service along the Purple Route will be modified on Thursday, December 5, 2024, with detours in effect. Patrons riding the CCC may experience longer than normal wait times and are encouraged to download the Passio GO! app to see when the next Circulator bus is arriving.
