SUMMER IN REVIEW
MOCFS Engaged Over 800 Children at the Kids Zone at AFRAM
AFRAM is one of the most prominent African-American festivals on the East Coast! Hosted in Baltimore City's Druid Hill Park, this 745-acre urban oasis draws crowds of over 100,000 each year! The 46th Annual AFRAM festival, held on June 17-18, 2023, was a true feast for the senses. When you enter the festival grounds, you are greeted by a kaleidoscope of colors, sounds, and aromas. The air is filled with the rhythmic beats of live music, ranging from soulful jazz to energetic hip-hop, and the irresistible scent of delicious soul food wafts through the air, tempting your taste buds at every turn.
This year’s KIDS ZONE: Play.Discover.Explore included moon bounces, face painting, wrestling action with C3WLive, spin art bikes provided by Kaiser Permanente Thrive, oversized games, free funnel cake, a photo booth, kid-friendly music by DJ A-Eazy, and so much more. MOCFS wanted to ensure children with all abilities could enjoy the Kids Zone by partnering with Port Discovery to offer sensory friendly activities lead by trained staff.
Thank you to everyone who explored with us at the Kids Zone at AFRAM!

BMore Summer Teen Event Series
BMore Engaged and Connected
The B’More Lit Summer Series is a series of events held around the city specifically for teens. The series started on May 28th at Rash Field and featured a DJ, live performances by local artists, FREE food, vendors and more. Launched in partnership with Baltimore City Recreation and Parks and DTLR these events ensured our young people had opportunities to socialize, have access to resources, and experience new and positive things in a safe and fun environment.
From pool parties across the city, to “Saturday Night Live” parties in front of City Hall to late night basketball games, there was something for everyone.
“I was a little apprehensive about bringing my grandson here but my heart is put at ease after seeing how organized and safe this event is. Thank you to Mayor Scott.”
– Baltimore City Grandmother/Guardian
Thank you to Cue Reckless, Yanna, Poodah, India Monet, Lori Asia Donn3yDon, and DJ Lou for supporting our teens!
See you next summer!
Mayor Brandon M. Scott's
Back to School Event
Mayor Brandon M. Scott’s Back to School Event was bigger than ever. This free annual event for the whole family included over 3,200 children and families. Attendees received free backpacks stuffed with supplies, resources for families from over 40 vendors, haircuts and braiding services, and hygiene products. Some students received free Chromebooks while all families had an opportunity to qualify for a free Chromebook as the Mayor continues to invest in closing the digital divide.
POE and the Oriole Bird even stopped by to get our young leaders excited to start the new school year.
"Events like these are good for the community. Having these different programs and entities to demonstrate what they offer and what they do is by all means very important.”
- Curtis McNeil from Yo! Baltimore.
