We wish you a happy everything! Welcome to the first issue of The Spill, a monthly newsletter from Baltimore City LGBTQ Affairs in the Office of Mayor Brandon M. Scott. Our goal is to keep you informed about all things LGBTQ-related inside and outside of City Hall. Do you know someone who would love to receive this newsletter? A little about us. Baltimore City LGBTQ Affairs is led by Jabari Lyles (he/him), Director of LGBTQ Affairs for the Office of Mayor Brandon M. Scott. Jabari also oversees the Baltimore LGBTQ Commission.

What we do? We advise and collaborate with the Mayor and City government on the needs and interests of Baltimore City's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities, while working to increase the community's capacity and visibility. Through law and policy advocacy, community events and engagement, resource design and program development, we work to achieve safety, unity, stability, health and inclusion for all LGBTQ people in Baltimore City. We prioritize youth, transgender people, Black and Brown people, seniors and people living with HIV/AIDS.

Keep in touch. E-mail jabari.lyles@baltimorecity.gov or call (443) 681-0437. Follow us! Check out our social media accounts and more at linktr.ee/baltcitylgbtq.

What does 'pansexual' mean? How do I ask about someone's pronouns? What best practices should we employ to ensure we are affirming all of our LGBTQ staff and City residents? We all have questions. Let Baltimore City LGBTQ Affairs provide the answers! We offer free training and internal consulting to all Baltimore City offices, agencies, departments, quasi-agencies and K-12 schools. We also offer these free trainings for residents, in partnership with Enoch Pratt Free Library. To schedule a training for your agency or school, click here.

Baltimore Scores '100' on the HRC Municipal Equality Index

For the second year in a row, Baltimore has earned a score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Municipal Equality Index (MEI). The MEI examines how inclusive municipal laws, policies and services are of LGBTQ people who live in cities across the US. Cities are rated based on non-discrimination laws, the municipality as an employer, municipal services, law enforcement and the city leadership's public position on equality. Of the 506 cities surveyed, the average score was '64' and only 94 earned a score of '100'. While we still have much further to go, Baltimore is leading the country on LGBTQ inclusivity.
