“A Monumental Occasion”

Annual Lighting of the Washington Monument 

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of the temporary road closures which will be implemented for the annual lighting of the Washington Monument.  The event will be held on Thursday, December 06, 2017, rain or shine.  Festivities in historic Mount Vernon will start at 5:00 p.m. 

In preparation for the event, the following streets will be closed to through traffic on Thursday, December 06, 2017 with detours and parking restrictions in effect:

  • Washington Place (N. Charles Street) – Centre Street to Madison Street – 8:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.
  • MT. Vernon Place – N. Charles Street to ST. Paul Street – 8:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.
  • Centre Street – Cathedral Street to N. Calvert Street – 8:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.
  • MT. Vernon Place W/O – N. Charles Street to Cathedral Street – (WILL BE CLOSED ON WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 5, 2018 AT 6:00pm for SETUP AND WILL REMAIN IN UNTIL THURSDAY DECEMBER 6, 2018 11:59pm).

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for pedestrians attending the event and are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes.
