Encourage students to reduce, reuse, and recycle this year.
Reduce:
- Purchase a
reusable water bottle for your student to use each day to stay hydrated
- Use a reusable
lunch box each day instead of paper bags
- Buy foods such as
yogurt in large containers, and pack in reusable containers each day
Reuse:
- Choose reusable
cutlery for lunches instead of one-time-use plastic cutlery
- If old notebooks
still have some blank pages, recycle the used pages and continue using the notebook
- Go through last
year’s school supplies and reuse items such as scissors or colored pencils, and
continue using items like bottles of glue that are not empty yet
Recycle:
- Look for supplies
made from recycled materials as well as ones that can be recycled
- Encourage your
child to join the school’s "Green Team" to help collect recycling and educate
other students about reducing their waste
- Visit the City
Schools’ Recycling toolkit for more information on school recycling

Football season is officially here!
Follow these tips to have a more sustainable tailgate:
- Avoid unnecessary
items for your tailgate or game day celebration, such as decorations you will
just throw away at the end of the day. Decorate with items that can be reused.
- Reduce your waste
by using reusable serving trays, plates, and cutlery. Affordable options can be
found at many stores (even with your favorite team's logo — Go Ravens!) and can
be used year after year.
- Recycle your
waste from the day! Recycling is available at M&T Bank Stadium, as well as
most college stadiums. Bring all recyclables from the tailgate home to place in
your bin or to one of our convenience centers.
- Avoid wishcycling!
Napkins, cutlery, and soiled food containers are NOT recyclable and should be
placed in the trash. See our recycling guide for additional
information.
Tweet us a photo of you reducing your waste this football season and we will mail you a free DPW coozie!

The bright yellow Baltimore City recycling bins are NOT needed to recycle! Place any labeled container (except plastic bags) out for recycling collection. The Office of Recycling offers free stickers to label your bin. Call us at (410) 396-4511 to request a sticker.
|
You can use anything to hold your recyclables, except for plastic bags! If you use plastic bags to collect you recyclables, please be sure to empty the contents into a bin, paper bag, cardboard box, or other marked container before setting it out for collection.
