Dear Friends:
On Wednesday, I was joined by Housing Department Deputy Commissioner Reggie Scriber to announce the opening of two new energy assistance outreach centers to serve families in East and West Baltimore. The centers will be located at Mt. Pleasant Ministries and Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. The centers are part of the Baltimore Housing Office of Home Energy Programs’ (OHEP) new initiative with faith-based organizations that aims to increase the number of families who apply for energy assistance.
For this administration, it is imperative that Baltimore City families struggling to make ends meet know that we are here to help them with their utility bills, especially as we enter the cold weather months, when heating bills are high. I am grateful that this partnership with two of our most prominent faith-based organizations will help us reach more residents, particularly those who may be ashamed to ask for help.
Baltimore Housing employees and church volunteers will be on-hand to process energy applications at Mt. Pleasant Ministries and Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church through March 2012. Both sites will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Residents may also submit energy applications at a non-faith-based energy intake center located at 1133-35 North Gilmor Street. That center is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Families in need of support are encouraged to call the OHEP hotline at 410-396-5555, visit one of the energy intake centers, or visit the OHEP website at www.baltimorehousing.org.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Rawlings-Blake
