New MBTA Ferry Name: the Frederick Douglass

Lieutenant Governor Driscoll braking champagne bottle on new Lynn ferry

Secretary Monica Tibbits-Nutt, General Manager Phil Eng, and other officials held a ceremony on September 10 in Lynn to rename an MBTA vessel, the Frederick Douglass. The new name, the Frederick Douglass, was submitted by a local fifth-grade student (now entering sixth grade) and was selected to honor Douglass, a former civil rights advocate.

MBTA Service Expanded to Support Haunted Happenings in Salem

The MBTA and Keolis will operate increased weekend train service to and from Salem during the month of October. Several extra trains will run on Saturdays and Sundays during peak times on the Newburyport/Rockport Commuter Rail Line. The increase in service will help accommodate visitors to Salem for Haunted Happenings events, and the schedule will be available on the MBTA website.

Cape Cod Bridges Projects Hits Major Milestone as MassDOT Files State Environmental Report

MassDOT has filed the Draft Environmental Report for the replacement of the Cape Cod Bridges with the Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act Office. The filing of this comprehensive document represents a significant milestone in the advancement of the Cape Cod Bridges Project. The document includes the Healey-Driscoll Administration's proposed decision to extend the construction of Sandwich Road safety improvements, including a shared use path to the Gallo Ice Arena, in response to requests from Bourne residents and local officials.

MBTA to Offer a Second Patriots Train from Boston

For the first time, the MBTA will offer a second round-trip train between Boston's South Station and Foxboro for New England Patriots home games on September 21, September 28, and December 14. The addition of the second Boston train will allow an additional 1,200 passengers to travel to and from Gillette Stadium for select games.
