Volunteering at Vaccine Sites

Volunteers

February 2021

Dear NOLA Ready Volunteer Corps,

Thank you to the many many volunteers who have trained up to volunteer at vaccine sites, and a big THANK YOU to the volunteers who supported our vaccine sites last week!

Here's a quick update on our vaccine distribution efforts:

  • Due to the nationwide shortage at the federal level, the City has received small numbers of vaccine - not enough to open a large vaccine site as planned, but enough to host multiple small vaccine sites every week.
  • Each week on Monday, the State of Louisiana informs the City of New Orleans of the quantity of vaccine that the City will be receiving for that week. We then have a quick turnaround time to set up a vaccine site for that week. We recommend that folks interested in volunteering at vaccine sites check the Opportunities Page periodically to see if volunteer shifts have been added. We do not want to inundate your inboxes every time volunteer shifts are added, so just continue checking back to see what volunteer opportunities are available.
  • We hope that as vaccine supply increases at the federal level, we will be allocated more vaccine and able to open a larger vaccine site as planned. We hope that this will occur in the near future, and in the meantime we continue to hone our vaccine site logistics and operations by running these smaller PODs.

Vaccine Site Volunteer Training: LINKS

In partnership with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), we are hosting a training on how to use the State's immunization system, LINKS. If you've taken our Intro to Vaccine Administration (VAC 100) training, you'll know that one of the key volunteer roles onsite is to input patient vaccine information into LINKS. This important role helps track who's received the vaccine, and helps our overall COVID-19 response be data-driven.

This 1-hr training will be held on Tuesday, February 23rd at 6pm, and led by LDH's Jeanne Marie Baudouin. Sign up on our Opportunities Page

Vaccine Site Volunteer Training: Cultural Competence

In partnership with Dr Alicia Battle, NOLA Ready is hosting a series of cultural competence trainings for volunteers. The training is designed to provide volunteers with skills to interact effectively with people from different backgrounds and cultures. This training will help increase participants' awareness of cultural competence and improve communication skills.

The next one will be this Saturday, click the link below to sign up to attend:

Option 2: Saturday, February 6th: 10am-12pm

Option 3: Saturday, February 13th: 10am-12pm

Signing Up to Volunteer at a Vaccine Site

To sign up to volunteer, please look on the Opportunities page in Better Impact.

These roles are only visible to "qualified" volunteers who have completed VAC 100, HIP 100, and who have uploaded the FEMA ICS 100 certificate. If you do not see these volunteer opportunities, please ensure that you have completed the required trainings from the COVID-19 Training Plan. If you have taken all three required trainings and you're still not seeing the signup, email volunteer@nola.gov and we can look into it and help problem solve.
