NOPD Invites Residents to Participate in Faith & Blue Week Events
NEW ORLEANS – NOPD’s Community Engagement Office, along with several faith-based leaders in New Orleans will host a series of events in honor of Faith and Blue Week, beginning Thursday, November 12, 2020 through Saturday November 14, 2020.
National Faith & Blue Week is an extension of the “OneCop” initiative, which is an initiative that facilitates positive ongoing partnerships between local law enforcement agencies and diverse congregations of every faith tradition.
The mission for Faith and Blue Week is to collectively address and resolve the issues facing our community and to show our community firsthand collaborative efforts formed by the Police and the Clergy.
Residents are encouraged to attend the following events:
Thursday November 12th at 1 p.m. - 2nd and 6th Districts Faith and Blue March
- The march will begin at Simone Bolivar Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard (park side), proceed on Simon Bolivar Avenue towards A. L. Davis Park, located at Washington Avenue and Lasalle Street, then return to the original location.
Friday November 13th at 4 p.m. - 1st, 3rd and 8th Districts Faith and Blue March
- The march will begin at Dillard University, located at 2601 Gentilly Boulevard, proceed down Gentilly Boulevard to St. Anthony Street, then turn left on St. Anthony Street to Mirabeau Avenue. The march will end at Beacon Light Church, located at 1937 Mirabeau Avenue. (Shuttle service will be provided and we ask that everyone park at the church and shuttle to the staging area.)
Friday, November 13th at 6 p.m. - “Uncomfortable Conversation”
- Members of the NOPD, the city of New Orleans Pastoral Community and participating residents will assemble at Beacon Light Church to have an open dialogue with police regarding community concerns in the city from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, seating will be limited and EVERYONE MUST register to attend. The panel will consist of NOPD Superintendent Shaun Ferguson, NOPD Deputy Chiefs, Orleans Sheriff Marlin Gusman, NOBLE Regional Vice President Edwin Debiew, NOBLE Metro President Jenerio Sanders, members of NOBLE Executive Board and Bishop Darryl S. Brister. The panel will be moderated by Pastors Brandon Boutin and Jonathan Everett.
Saturday, November 14th at 8 a.m. – 5th District Faith and Blue March
- The march will begin at Rock of Ages Baptist Church, located at 1921 North Tonti Street, proceed left on Annett Street, pass in front of United Fellowship FGBC and turn left on North Dorgenios to Hardin Playground, followed by a prayer in Hardin Playground.
Saturday November 14th at 10 a.m. – Faith and Blue Unity Bike Ride in 4th District
- The bike ride will begin at 425 O’Bannon Street, proceed down Patterson Street to Bouny Street, Bouny Street to Tech Street, left on Newton Street to General Meyer Avenue, right on Pace Street, right on Wall Boulevard, then a U-Turn on Wall Boulevard to Holliday Drive, left on Holliday Drive, right on General Meyer Avenue, U-turn in the 4800 block of General Meyer Avenue and proceed to O'Bannon Street & Patterson Street. There will be possible business stops at Dry Dock Bar, located at Patterson Street & Bouny Street and the Kitchen Restaurant, located at 4801 General Meyer Avenue.
Saturday November 14th at 4 p.m. - Faith and Blue Flag Football Game
- The flag football game will be played by local pastors and police at Joe Brown Park, located at 5601 Read Boulevard. There will be music, food and more for residents to enjoy.
