MAYOR'S OFFICE ANNOUNCES REQUEST FOR PARTICIPATION, 'COMMUNITY LEARNING HUB PROGRAM' INTEREST FORM AVAILABLE

NEW ORLEANS — Beginning today, the Mayor’s Office of Youth and Families in partnership with the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC), New Orleans Public Library (NOPL) are seeking interest forms for the upcoming Community Learning Hubs program which will support students’ learning this school year for children ages 6-18.

Community Learning Hubs will provide families with safe spaces for children to engage in supervised independent virtual learning, and support families that need access to internet services (as well as devices in some locations). Enrichment activities will be provided based on age group and the hub site.

Parents or guardians interested in having their children participate in the program are encouraged to fill out an interest form on the City’s website here. Parents may also express interest by calling the Mayor’s Office of Youth and Families at (504) 295-5052, no later than Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020.

Interest survey data that is gathered will be reviewed and used to determine locations and schedules for the learning hubs—further details on this will be announced later this month. Participants will then be enrolled on a first come, first serve basis as well as according to need.

The program will adhere to local COVID-19 safety guidelines and students will be grouped into small cohorts, with no more than 10 people in a space. Students in the program will follow strict safety protocols including wearing a face covering and practicing social distancing.
