One lane traffic AA to Moody Drive

FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (March 26, 2015) – Work and traffic impacts will begin Monday on a $4.4 million reconstruction of US 62, formerly known as US 68 hill, in Maysville.

Now through August, contractors will rebuild all lanes of US 62 from the ground up and repave 1.2 miles of the highway between the AA Highway (KY 9) and Moody Drive.

The work will include removal of old sub-surface concrete that’s been causing bumps and other pavement issues, and will add greater stability to the highway for future traffic.

In addition, paving and repairs will be made later this spring to a shorter section of US 62 between Fourth Street and Forest Avenue.

Lane Closures & Shifts

During initial construction, all traffic on US 62 – which was known as US 68 hill until the bypass opened – will be switched into one lane each direction with a center turn lane between the AA Highway and Moody Drive.

Beginning Monday, March 30, motorists should expect the following traffic changes to take place after morning rush hour:

-        Inbound (east) US 62 traffic heading down the hill toward downtown will transition into one lane near Kmart just prior to the AA Highway intersection. Once past the intersection, traffic will shift left onto newly-striped pavement, and remain in one lane until past Moody Drive. A center turn lane will be available for left turns, and right-turning traffic will be able to cross the work zone at designated areas when construction is not taking place.

-        Outbound (west) US 62 traffic heading away from downtown will transition into one lane prior to Moody Drive, and remain in that one lane past the AA Highway intersection. A center turn lane will be available for left turns. Right-turning traffic will not be affected.

-        On the AA Highway, left-turning traffic approaching the US 62 intersection will be limited to one left-turn lane only. The right two lanes will be for through traffic and right-turning traffic. Lanes will be marked.

Brief Entrance Closures

During this first phase of the reconstruction, contractors will begin at Moody Drive and work toward the AA Highway making deep, nearly two-foot cuts into the roadway to rebuild the eastbound two lanes of US 62. That work will require brief temporary closures of entrances as equipment passes those entrances. Access will be restored as soon as possible, but travel could be on rough surfaces until paving is complete.

Upcoming Traffic Changes

By May, reconstruction work will switch to the westbound lanes. Then, in June and July, work will transition into the center turn lane. Both changes – as well as upcoming work on US 62 between Fourth Street and Forest Avenue – will require new traffic patterns, which will be announced as the project progresses.
