Transportation Cabinet awards three highway improvement contracts for six District 10 counties
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet sent this bulletin at 11/09/2012 11:48 AM ESTJACKSON, Ky. — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet recently awarded three contracts totaling more than $1.6 million for highway projects in six counties within the Department of Highways District 10.
Contracts awarded are:
- A $1,183,759.18 contract to replace the bridge carrying KY 191 across the Red River near Hazel Green in Wolfe County. The project is to be completed within 75 working days once construction begins. The approximate completion date is in the summer of 2013. Working days do not count winter months, weekends or inclement weather days.
- A $310,038.72 project to install rumble strips and pavement markings on various highways in Breathitt, Magoffin, Menifee, Morgan and Powell counties. This contract also includes routes in several other counties in eastern Kentucky. The project is to be completed by Aug. 15.
- A $178,348 contract to resurface several county routes in Breathitt County. The project is to be completed by June 30.
The Department of Highways District 10 consists of 10 counties – Breathitt, Estill, Lee, Magoffin, Menifee, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Powell and Wolfe – in east-central and southeastern Kentucky. The district office is located in Jackson.
Construction activities are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are asked to drive with caution in work zones and be aware of workers, traffic control devices and construction equipment when traveling in areas where projects are ongoing.

Drivers can check these sites prior to traveling to determine if there will be traffic delays for which they should be prepared.
