Closure postponed due to forecasted inclement weather; a new date will be announced once scheduled
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 9, 2026) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that the directional weekend closure of Interstate 264 West (Watterson Expressway), scheduled to begin tonight, Oct. 9, has been postponed due to the forecast of inclement weather.
An updated schedule will be announced once details have been finalized.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 8, 2026) – As work continues to progress on the $130 million widening and improvement project of Interstate 264 (Watterson Expressway) and U.S. 42 (Brownsboro Road) in Louisville, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of the directional weekend closure of I-264 West, beginning Friday, Oct. 9.

Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, to 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 12, I-264 West will be closed at the I-264/I-71 split to mile marker 21 at KY 1447 (Westport Road).
The I-264 West on-ramp from KY 1447 (Westport Road) will remain open.
Motorists should plan to detour by taking I-71 North to I-265 South to I-64 West to reconnect with I-264 West, or by taking I-64 East to reach destinations within the closure area.
The weekend closure of I-264 West is necessary to allow contract crews to safely complete asphalt paving operations.
The interstate project is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2027. The work is being carried out by Cleary Construction Inc. of Monroe County, Kentucky. More details, including project timelines and traffic impacts, will be shared online as work progresses. Motorists are encouraged to sign up for email and text alerts regarding weekly traffic impacts pertaining to the project.
