LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 17, 2026) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that the eastbound Interstate 64 rest area in Clark County will temporarily close beginning Tuesday, Sept. 22, for renovations.

The rest area, located near mile point 98, is expected to remain closed through summer 2027 while work is completed.

The $4.2 million project includes a full renovation of the existing rest area, along with improvements to the vending area and surrounding infrastructure. Work includes new windows, toilets, sinks and restrooms, as well as plumbing and HVAC upgrades.

Exterior improvements include replacement of sidewalks, new asphalt throughout the parking area and new high-mast lighting.
