Single lane closures and rolling roadblocks in place 7 p.m. through 5 a.m.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 28, 2026) – Construction for the I-75 widening project in Lexington will require an outbound traffic shift (northbound) on KY 922 (Newtown Pike) between Newtown Court and Citation Boulevard to a newly constructed section of roadway on Tuesday, July 28. This traffic shift is necessary to move vehicles onto the first completed portion of the Legacy Trail underpass so that construction can begin on the next section of the underpass.
Beginning Tuesday, at 7 p.m., intermittent rolling roadblocks will begin on Newtown Pike northbound between Newtown Court and Citation Boulevard while crews complete the traffic switch. A single lane closure will also be in effect on the right-hand lane going northbound on Newtown Pike.
Also, beginning at 7 p.m., single lane closures are possible on inbound (southbound) Newtown Pike.
All roadblocks and lanes will be reopened the following morning at 5 a.m.
Motorists should expect short delays and are encouraged to use caution while traveling through the work zone. Once the shift is complete, traffic will remain in the new alignment as construction continues.
Tuesday, July 28

The work is part of the I-75 widening project. When complete in 2026, this project will reduce congestion and improve safety throughout the 2-mile corridor from the Paris Pike exit to the I-64/75 southern split. All work/closures are scheduled on a tentative basis, and subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
