LEXINGTON, Ky (May 18, 2026)- The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that construction is expected to begin soon on the Brannon Road (KY 1980) improvement project in Jessamine County.
The $28 million project includes approximately 3.21 miles of grading, drainage, and surfacing work along Brannon Road between U.S. 68 and U.S. 27. Improvements will include widening Brannon Road to three total lanes with a center two-way left turn lane, construction of a roundabout at Clays Mill Road and construction of a new bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad.
The project is designed to improve safety, traffic flow, and reduce congestion along the corridor. The expected completion date is November 2028.
Initial work will include construction of the embankment for the new bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad. Most operations are expected to take place during daytime hours.
Major traffic impacts and lane closures are not expected soon, but motorists may encounter periodic flagging operations as the project beings.
All traffic impacts will be announced in advance as work progresses.
Motorists are advised to slow down, use extra caution and watch for crews working.
