Construction part of highway widening project
LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 1, 2026) – Construction for the Newtown Pike (KY 922) widening project in Lexington will require a temporary overnight left-lane closure in each direction (northbound and southbound) beginning Sunday, April 5. This closure will allow crews to remove the median and replace it with asphalt to make way for future culvert construction.
Each evening, Monday through Friday, beginning at 7 p.m., the left lane in each direction on Newtown Pike (KY 922) will close between Newtown Court and Aristides Boulevard. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning. Closures will end when work is completed on or around Friday, April 24.
Beginning Sunday, April 5
- Each evening, Monday-Friday, beginning at 7 p.m., the left lane in each direction on Newtown Pike will close between Newtown Court and Aristides Boulevard (mile markers 1.8-2.8)
- All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the following morning.
- This closure will be repeated Monday through Friday until the work is complete on or around Friday, April 24 (weather dependent).
- Delays are possible; please plan accordingly.
This work is part of the Newtown Pike (KY 922) widening project. When complete in 2027, this project will add a lane in each direction on Newtown Pike from New Circle Road (KY 4) to I-75, improving safety and traffic flow by increasing capacity to handle current and future traffic volumes. All work/closures are scheduled on a tentative basis, and subject to change depending on weather conditions, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
