Bridge repairs and paving planned along 16 miles of I-64
LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 8, 2026) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of ongoing work on the Interstate 64 improvement project in Clark, Montgomery and Bath counties.
The $19.6 million project includes bridge and overpass repairs, drainage and guardrail upgrades, and repaving along 16 miles of I-64 through Clark, Montgomery, and Bath counties from mile point 101.7 to mile point 117.8. The project is scheduled for completion by November 1, 2026.
“We ask for everyone’s patience as you travel through the work zone as work progresses throughout the year," said District 7 Chief Engineer Kelly Baker. "When the work is complete, the improvements to the pavement and bridges will provide a safer corridor for all who travel this section of Interstate.”
Crews are continuing work on crossovers at the bridge over Prewitt-Grassy Lick Road (mile point 105) along with guardrail transitions at bridge ends. This work requires traffic to shift to the opposite side of the interstate, with one lane of traffic maintained in each direction while work is performed. Traffic shifts are scheduled to begin Thursday, May 14, weather permitting.
Lane closures are currently in place on I-64, with one lane of traffic from mile points 101 to 106, and motorists should expect changing traffic patterns as work progresses.
Work will continue in phases along the corridor, with crews completing bridge repairs followed by milling and paving operations. Lane closures will move through the project area as work advances.
Motorists should expect periodic lane closures and reduced speeds in work zones through November, or until work is complete. Delays are likely, especially at peak travel times.
Exact dates and times for traffic impacts will be announced in advance as work progresses.
All work and/or closures are scheduled on a tentative basis and are subject to change depending on weather, emergencies and other factors beyond the control of the Department of Highways.
