Nighttime Work Zone on Interstate 24 in Marshall County to Resume Next Week Between Exits 27 & 31
Temporary closures, detours planned Feb. 23 to 27
PADUCAH, Ky. (Feb. 20, 2026) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will resume a nighttime work zone on Interstate 24 next week as part of a project to reinforce shoulders on bridges between the Exit 27/U.S. 62 interchange in Marshall County and the I-24 Tennessee River Bridge at the Marshall-Livingston County line, or mile points 26.50 to 29.352. Work paused in mid-December.
Starting Monday, Feb. 23, crews will begin to install barrier wall and temporary striping in the work zone. To facilitate this work, temporary closures will occur between the hours of 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.
This is expected to last for approximately five nights, weather permitting. Work may be completed before 6 a.m. each night.
Motorists should be prepared to follow detours during temporary closures, with help from law enforcement and flaggers directing traffic.
Detour Routes:
-
Eastbound: Take Exit 27 (Kentucky Dam/Calvert City), travel via U.S. 62 and KY 453, and re-enter I-24 eastbound at Exit 31.
-
Westbound: Take Exit 31 (Grand Rivers), travel via KY 453 and U.S. 62, and re-enter I-24 westbound at Exit 27.
Once the barriers are in place, traffic may shift to a new pattern, but all lanes on I-24 will remain open.
A reduced speed limit of 55 mph will be in effect in the work zone for the duration of the project, which is anticipated to be completed by fall 2026. Please allow extra travel time and use caution.
