District 7 Operations Update: Crews Progressing on Snow and Ice Removal
Plow and grader crews working routes across the region
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Jan 29, 2026) – Kentucky Department of Highways District 7 crews are making progress with snow and ice operations. Bitterly cold temperatures continue to limit the effectiveness of salt and other roadway treatments but plows and motor graders remain out in force across the region, especially on secondary routes.
Today, grader operations to help break up and remove hard-packed snow and ice are planned on several state routes in Fayette County, including Georgetown Road, Harrodsburg Road, the inner loop of New Circle Road near Old Frankfort Pike (including ramps), and Winchester Road. Plow trucks will be operating alongside grader crews to support treatment efforts.
Yesterday, on Jan. 28, crews conducted rolling roadblock operations on I-75 in both northbound and southbound lanes between the northern and southern splits
In Clark County, rolling roadblock operations also began on I-64 yesterday and are planned to continue today, beginning westbound near mile marker 87, with eastbound lanes to follow as operations progress.
Crews will continue working across the district on priority B and C routes and hazardous areas, including secondary roads, turn lanes, medians, and ramps. Crews will continue winter maintenance efforts as conditions allow.
Those traveling are encouraged to keep the following safety reminders in mind:
- Allow snow plows plenty of space to safely operate
- Be alert for slick spots, which may persist due to low temperatures
- Reduce speeds, increase following distance, and allow additional time for travel
With dangerously cold temperatures, residents are encouraged to know where the nearest warming center or shelter is located. Information on warming centers statewide is available at https://tinyurl.com/kyshelters.
