KYTC District 1 Winter Storm Update: Jan. 25, 2026, 9:45 a.m.
Crews focus on keeping primary routes open and passable
PADUCAH, Ky. (Jan. 25, 2026) – District 1 Snow and Ice teams continue working Sunday morning to battle this relentless winter storm and keep the most highly traveled roadways open and passable.
The focus has remained on interstates, parkways, and major highways in each county that are critical for emergency response, freight movement, and essential travel. Crews have not reach secondary or rural routes yet.
Following a mix of snow and sleet overnight, road conditions remain slick and potentially hazardous. Motorists are urged to avoid non-essential travel. Those who must travel should use extreme caution and pack an emergency car kit, which could be lifesaving if stranded.
Motorists are also reminded to maintain a safe distance from snow plows and heavy highway equipment and never pass plows on the shoulder.
The National Weather Service’s Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for western Kentucky until 6 p.m. Sunday. An Ice Storm Warning, which includes Calloway and Trigg counties in District 1, is also in effect until 6 p.m.
Precipitation is expected to taper off this afternoon; however, below-freezing temps will significantly reduce the effectiveness of snow and ice removal efforts and slow improvements in road conditions.
Crews are working to make as much progress as possible on state-maintained routes today ahead of persistent frigid temperatures expected to last into the coming week. The District 1 Snow and Ice team will continue to monitor road conditions and adjust response strategies as needed.
