Traffic Impacts on Carroll Cropper Bridge in Boone County Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 7

Motorists should expect lane closures and rolling roadblocks

COVINGTON, Ky. (Jan. 6, 2026) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists of upcoming traffic impacts on the Interstate 275 Carroll Cropper Bridge, which carries traffic over the Ohio river between Kentucky and Indiana in Boone County. The impacts, which are associated with the ongoing zone painting project, are scheduled to begin Wednesday, Jan. 7.

  • Wednesday, Jan. 7 and Thursday, Jan. 8:
    • Beginning at 9 a.m., a right lane closure will be in place on I-275 westbound, starting near the Petersburg Exit (Idlewild Bypass/KY 3608) (mile point 11.38). During the closure, the contractor will complete the final rigging components for a work platform that will be used during the zone painting project. The lane will reopen daily by 3 p.m.
  • Wednesday night, Jan. 7, into Thursday morning, Jan. 8:
    • Beginning at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 7, crews will conduct several rolling roadblocks on the eastbound portion of the bridge. Each rolling roadblock is expected to last approximately 15 minutes and will slow traffic on affected segments of I-275 eastbound to allow crews to safely complete joint sealing work. Weather permitting, this work is expected to be completed by 5 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8, ahead of the morning commute.

Motorists should expect delays and plan ahead to avoid potential delays. For more information regarding the ongoing work on the Carroll Cropper Bridge – be sure to check out the project webpage here.
