I-264/U.S. 42 Improvement Project Traffic Advisory: Daytime Lane and Ramp Closures on I-264 East Tuesday, Dec. 9

Contract crews to perform pavement patching

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Dec. 5, 2025) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists o daytime lane and ramp closures on Interstate 264 East (Watterson Expressway) on Tuesday, Dec. 9, as part of the $130 million widening and improvement project of I-264 and U.S. 42 (Brownsboro Road).

The right lane of I-264 East (Watterson Expressway) will be closed between mile markers 22 and 23 (from U.S. 42/Brownsboro Road to the I-264/I-71 split) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9. During this time, the I-264 East (Watterson Expressway) ramp to I-71 North will also be closed. Motorists should plan to detour by continuing on I-264 East to I-71 South and take Exit 2 to Zorn Avenue to reconnect with I-71 North. Additionally, the I-264 East (Watterson Expressway) off-ramp to U.S. 42/KY 22 at Exit 22 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

The daytime lane and ramp closures are necessary for contract crews to perform pavement patching, which must be completed during daytime hours to ensure proper application and durability of the material due to current weather conditions.

Motorists should heed signage, use caution when traveling through the work zone, and plan ahead for travel delays.

The highway improvement project is expected to be completed by the Fall of 2027. More details, including project timelines and traffic impacts, will be shared online as work progresses. Motorists are encouraged to sign up for email or text alerts regarding weekly traffic impacts pertaining to the project.
